The short answer

Grading scales a base size up and down by a set amount per size. A common rule is ~4 cm between sizes for bust, waist and hips, ~1 cm for shoulders and sleeves, and a few millimetres for lengths. Set your base values and steps above to build the full chart.

Frequently asked questions

What is garment grading?
Grading is scaling a base-size pattern up and down to create a full size range. Each measurement increases by a set amount per size — the “grade rule”. For womenswear, bust, waist and hips commonly grade by about 4 cm per size, while shoulders and lengths grade by smaller amounts.
How much should each size go up by?
A common starting point is 4 cm between sizes for the main circumferences (bust, waist, hips), ~1 cm for shoulder width and sleeve length, and a few millimetres for body lengths. Brands tune these to their fit and customer. This tool lets you set the grade step per measurement.
Is this a body chart or a garment chart?
It generates body measurements by size. For the finished garment, add ease (extra room) on top, which varies by style — a fitted bodice needs little, a relaxed coat needs more. Publish the body chart so customers can self-select a size.
Can I print or download the chart?
Yes. Set your base values and grade steps, then click Print / Save as PDF to print or save it. Nothing is stored and no account is needed.
How do ateliers manage sizes and products?
For made-to-measure, individual measurements matter more than standard sizes — and Bomble stores 22 per client. For ready-to-wear, Bomble manages products with size and colour variants and collections, so a house running both keeps everything in one place.
